Aquaponics
Aquaponics is an organic, highly productive way of growing fruits, vegetables, and fish,
that recreates a natural river or stream. The fish are kept in tanks, and the plants are grown
hydroponically--meaning withour soil. They sit in beds of pebbles.
Saves water
The water with waste from the fish is pumped to the plants.
As the plants absorb nutrients from the water,
they basically clean it for the fish. Then, the water is pumped back to the fish.
There's no need for fertilizers or chemicals.
It is entirely organic. Natural pest control methods are used, like ladybugs which eat aphids.
There's no need for land or soil.
The system can be set up anywhere. It can even be portable.
Here are just a few of the fish species being used in Auquaponic systems.
Tilapia
Rainbow Trout
Brown Trout
Silver Perch
Jade Perch
Sleepy Cod
