Thrive! Not just survive.
Biotechture Training is a Texas LLC, formed for the purpose of operating a non-profit
institution, per Texas BOC 2.008
We are not Earthship Biotecture nor are we affiliated with Earthship Biotecture. We attended Earthship Academy and we have incorporated ideas from Earthship Biotecture along with ideas from other evolving technologies including monolithic domes, the California Institute of Earth Art and Architecture, the Venus Project, the Zeitgeist movement and many other sources. There are many new technologies and materials being created everyday that are increasingly more efficient and more affordable. We continue to incorporate the newest technologies into our Sustainable Earth Home designs.
Mark Kirkwood, "Captain Kirk", is the principal designer for Biotechture Training. Mark is a fourth generation contractor, following in the footsteps of his great grandfather who built and ran power plants, his grandfather who ran Kirkwood Electric, one of the largest electrical contractors and suppliers in California for many years and his father who was an electrician and a general contractor who built many fine homes and is well respected in Rogue River, OR. Marks family also built and operated a wood manufacturing business.
Mark started working in the family business when he was 7 years old and continued to work for his father until he attended college. He credits his father with teaching him more practical knowledge than he could have learned from any books. After college, Mark worked for two different banks and a health insurance company, but hated being behind a desk. He did a stint with a two pest control companies before starting his own company. Kirkwood Home Services specialized in rodent control and flood damage eventually expanding into general contracting performing full renovations and restorations.
Mark says From foundation to roof we did it all, until 2008 when the market crashed. One month we did $40,000 in business and the next month nothing. This was a real wake up call for me. I had always been a survivalist, enjoying learning to survive in the woods alone but over many years I matured into Sustainablity. Through countless hours of research and learning I came across the Earthships concept and they just made sense to me. When the opportunity to attend the Earthship Academy came up, I applied. I was one of 20 people chosen out of 1000 applicants for the first class. My dreams, my goals, my heart and soul, my family, everything I have goes into what we are doing here at Biotechture Training.
We are synthesizing the newest technologies, developing a community based on the tenets of the Venus Project and the Zeitgeist Movement:
Shared and efficient use of the earths resources based on human needs rather than consumption and using the latest, most effective technology to make use of those resources in the most efficient manners possible.
Aligning ourselves and our environments with natural processes. Using resources which are plentiful like solar, wind, geothermal, etc rather than resources which are scarce and controlled by wealth, ownership and power.
Maximizing product lifespan to reduce waste and misuse of resources
Incorporating constant upgrades and improvements and the recycling of wastes within the systems to economize the earths resources.
Utilizing social design philosophies within our community to share rather than compete and to work cooperatively to maximize technological abilities, increase productivity, manage global resources and free humanity from drudgery and to eliminate destructive habits like debt, subservience, competition and planned obsolescence.
